Tadd's Story

We placed our 13 year old son in residential treament during a very challenging time for our family, and for most of the world due to Covid. At the beginning of March 2020, our son was struggling with anger and aggression towards his family, dysregulation and behavior that we felt was so dangerous that his life was in jeopardy. We therefore, made the difficult decision to place him in residential care so that he could survive this very troubling time in his life. Also, our family needed a break from the insanity.
Our son needed the in-person learning that Covid had robbed from him, he needed a solution to his isolation, so friends that understood what he was going through was neccesary, and he needed to be in a safe environment where many caring and supportive eyes could be watching over him. Residential treatment saved him from himself. And we will be eternally grateful for all the supportive and caring people that worked with him.
Our son’s dangerous behaviors lessened in time, his anger and frustration was addressed with both group and individual counseling, medication management helped a great deal, and we were able to come back together as a family to discuss the things that weren’t working in our home. We needed the time and space to heal, and our son needed help from experts in the field that could address all of his needs.
Since returning home two years later, our son is a different person. He is kind and loving. Gone are the behaviors and anger that plagued him. He has matured and grown up quite a bit. He is a joy to have in our home, something that I thought I would never have said about him. His behaviors are not perfect, and we still have our challenges, but we have our kid back and we can’t be more grateful and indebted to the residential treatment community.
